About Geraldine Osborne
I love to travel to remote, untouched parts of our planet. Meeting different people, learning about new cultures, and immersing myself in unfamiliar environments has broadened my perspective and given me fresh ways of seeing the world. With my husband, Danny, an artist, I have made some remarkable journeys: months spent traversing the uninhabited Chilean Altiplano with seven llamas and no guides, crossing the sea ice by dog team in the High Arctic with just my young family, and working on active volcanoes in Guatemala and Hawaii. Each journey a shared exploration recorded in writings, photographs, film and Danny’s paintings.
In my professional life as a medical doctor, I worked in both General Practice and Public Health. As Medical Officer of Health in Nunavut, for over a decade, I had the opportunity to serve a northern, mainly inuit, population, collaborating with many partners to address the unique health needs of the region. This was among the most fulfilling time of my career.
Now retired, I live with Danny on the beautiful Beara Peninsula in West Cork, Ireland. Here, we continue to pursue our creative passions. Somewhere Cold is my debut book, marking the start of a new adventure in writing.
